In 2007 West Park Cultural Center and Lil'Drummaboy Recordings formed a partnership to establish this unique music program for youth.
The music program is a comprehensive music technology experience that youth will love! With the use of Pro Tools, Reason, FL Studio & Acid computer software students will learn audio recording, music production, and music composition. The class also offers instruction in guitar, keyboard, vocal, songwriting, and basic music theory. This is a project-based class in which all students will have a chance to produce collaborative CD projects and publish work on West Park Cultural Center's website.

ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS

SAMORI COLES (Program design and recording instruction)
Samori is a music producer and audio engineer who has actively participated in a number of positive hip-hop, poetry, jazz, R&B and soul music CD releases over the past ten years. Teaching the fundamentals of the art through teamwork, collaboration, creative problem solving and history is essential to his artistic process. Samori founded Lil’ Drummaboy Recordings located on South Street and developed West Park Cultural Center’s Music Technology and Production program which he has been facilitating for the last four years. Samori has also provided music experiences for the center’s summer camp program.
TIMI TANZANIA aka The DUBWARRIO (guitar instruction)
Timi
started playing at New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, N.M. In 1981 he entered a local talent show in Philadelphia where he won Best Male Vocalist and soon formed his first Reggae band called Timi Dread & The Dubwarriors and recorded his first single “No Guns” (a record with the reggae band House of Assembly). The Dubwarriors played local clubs in the Philadelphia area and opened for major recording artists from Jamaica throughout the tri-state region. In 1994 Timi formed a new group called Upper Dubland and opened for Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Dub Syndicate, Lucky Dube,& The Last Poets. In 2000 he recorded first full compilation of electronic DUB at Challenger Recording Studios in North Philadelphia called UPPER DUBLAND" and recorded the vocal companion CD “The Healing of the Nation". He soon put together a new group called Timi Tanzania & The Dubway Reggae Band. Other CD releases include “The Return of The Hippie" and “ELECTRONIC”. He is a member of the Caribbean Festival Committee (stage coordinator) in Philadelphia, The Urban Shamans and I YAHN I ARKESTRA, and teaches Elementary Theory in Music.

BARBARA WALKER (vocal instruction)
Barbara's career has been rich and varied, marked by performance in film, theater and recordings with local and international artists and musicians such as LL Cool J for Island Def Jam Recordings. Singing "Here Comes The Morning" in the mega hit movie, "The Score" starring Robert DiNero, Marlon Brando, Angela Basset and Ken Norton, Barbara made her Hollywood debut. The American Music Theater Festival had the pleasure of working with Barbara in the stage play tribute to Duke Ellington's,"Essentially Ellington", for which she received rave reviews. She has toured the country with tenor saxophonist extraordinaire, the late Grover Washington Jr., Patti LaBelle, Herbie Hancock, Diane Schuur, Uri Caine, Diana Krall, Les McCann, Branford Marsalis, Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, Toots Thielemans, the late Oscar Brown Jr., Nancy Wilson, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Manhattan Transfer, and the late Maynard Ferguson.
VERONICA UNDERWOOD (vocal instruction)
The incomparable Veronica Underwood has performed with Celine Dion, Diana Ross, Michael Bolton, and Phyllis Hyman, with whom she also toured extensively. She has recorded with Patti Labelle, Lou Rawls, and Eugene Wild. Victim of Desire, from her self-titled, 1985 album on Atlantic Records, made the Billboard Book of Records. While her roots are in Gospel, Veronica is equally gifted in Jazz, Pop, R&B, Big Band, and Rock. She is a passionate, simply electrifying performer with tremendous warmth and charisma.
PATTY BULACK (keyboard instruction)
